Phillip
Steinmetz brings a special tradition to the Wartrace MusicFest.
In 1968 Ramona Jones ordered a Gallagher Guitar for Grandpa for a
Christmas present. At that time the Gallaghers did not make a
small body guitar. But since Grandpa had been playing a small body
guitar J. W. Gallagher designed a guitar especially for Grandpa.
J. W. and Don Gallagher delivered this special guitar to Grandpa and
Ramona's home in December of 1968. It was the first GC-70 Gallagher
guitar. Today the GC-70 is still a popular model.
Phillip Steinmetz is Grandpa Jones' great nephew. He proudly
plays Grandpa's old Gallagher Guitar and continues the tradition of old
time music handed down to him by Grandpa.
Phillip has performed at Walt Disney World, Silver Springs,
Central Florida and Seminole County Fairs and the Heritage Festival in
Luray, Virginia. He won the Florida State Banjo Championship in
1996. Phillip is a three time "Old Time Banjo" National Champion.
He appeared at "Opry Fest" on July 22, 2000 to help celebrate the 75th
birthday of "The Grand Ole Opry". Phillip has many musical
credits including an appearance in 2006 on the PBS television program
Tennessee Crossroads.
Phillip is dedicated to carrying on the tradition of Old Time
Mountain Music. |
