This is the first guitar contest held in conjunction
with the Wartrace Musicfest! In Winfield, Adam Wright and I
decided that it was time to bring the guitar contest back to Wartrace.
From 1979 to 1986 Wartrace was the home for the Tennessee State Guitar
Championship. This contest was part of the Wartrace Pick'n and
Fiddle'n Festival. Jim Wood (my guitar instructor) and my father
have told me stories of all the great flat pickers that would come to
the competition. In fact, one year there were five national flatpicking
champions in the competition.
Adam and I are excited about this guitar competition. The contest will be held in the
Walking Horse Hotel Music Hall. The music hall seats 150 people. The competition will be judged blind. It will be a
flat-pick competition. The competition is limited to 30
contestants. Pre-registration begins March 1, 2008.
